Christopher Peter Mackay

Dr Christopher Mackay is an exercise scientist and physiotherapist by background with 15 years clinical experience in the hospital setting and in community rehabilitation. Chris has worked as a clinical advisor to the department of veteran affairs and he has been a teacher at the University of Queensland and Australian Catholic University for a number of years as a guest lecturer and practical teacher into the neurological rehabilitation coursework stream. Chris holds a Bachelor of Human Movement Studies (exercise science), a Master of Physiotherapy Studies and a PhD in neuroscience and physiotherapy from the University of Queensland. Neurological recovery and maximising brain function following injury (specifically in stroke) is Chris’s main area of research interest and experience. He is currently involved with a multi-centre randomised controlled trial investigating a new combined model of rehabilitation involving both arm movement training and communication training. Christopher has had an interest in research from an early age, as a child with his twin sister Nicole, taking part in studies with Twins Research Australia.
